Cayenne Chili F1 Wildcat is a high-yielding, F1 hybrid cayenne pepper known for producing large, 8-inch long fruits with a mild heat (500-1500 Scoville units) and a smoky flavor. It is a versatile pepper that is easier to harvest and more uniform than traditional cayennes, making it good for a variety of culinary uses like fresh, dried, or ground. 

Characteristics

Fruit: Extra-large, 6-10 inches long, weighing 2-3 ounces. The fruits are straighter and have thicker walls than typical cayenne peppers.

Flavor: A mild heat rating of 500-1500 Scoville units, combined with a smoky and sweet flavor.

Plant: A vigorous, compact, and high-yielding plant with an even growth habit. It is suitable for containers.

Maturity: Matures in approximately 75 days after transplanting.

The Satan's Kiss pepper is a small, round, Italian heirloom pepper also known as Ciliegia Piccante or "spicy cherry". It is medium-hot with a Scoville rating of 40,000–50,000 SHU and has a sweet taste with a spicy kick. The pepper starts green and ripens to a purplish-red, is roughly 1-2 inches in diameter, and is traditionally stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies before being grilled.

Origin: Southern Italy, where it is a popular heirloom variety.

Castelfranco Chicory, Radicchio, Variegata di Castelfranco

Castelfranco forms a gorgeous loose head similar in form to looseleaf lettuce heads. Edible leaves are green with red speckles and are similar in texture to looseleaf lettuce. The flavor profile is similar to Radicchio and Endive (which are also types of Chicory).
Originating in the 17th century Castelfranco radicchio is named after the Northern Italian town of Castelfranco Veneto where it was first cultivated. The region of Veneto in Italy is known for its radicchio production with each town in the region being specialized in growing their own specific type. A method to develop some raddichios such as Castelfranco’s unique coloring known as imbiancamento (forced whitening) was first developed in 1860 by Belgian agronomist Francesco Van Den Borre. A complicated process, imbiancamento involves early harvest of Castelfranco then packing the trimmed heads into mesh baskets and storing in a darkened room. The roots are then allowed to soak in circulating spring water kept at 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The process takes several days during which time the leaves take on their signature red-purple variegations. Castelfranco can also successfully be grown in the home garden without use of the imbiancamento method provided it is given regular, moderate watering and mild to cool temperatures.

Chantenay carrots are short carrots with light orange skin and orange-red colored cores. Chantenay carrots are grown for canned and processed carrots because of their high yield. The carrots can be eaten fresh, frozen, or canned. Chantenay carrots can be eaten raw or cooked, with their taste usually described as sweet and crisp. However, they may become coarse and tough when grown past maturity, specifically in the heat of summer. Like all carrots, Chantenay carrots are high in carotene and fiber.

There are two main types of Chantenay carrot seeds available to gardeners, Red-cored Chantenay or Royal Chantenay.

Red-cored Chantenay carrots have a redder core and blunt tip.

Royal Chantenay carrots have an orange-red core and a tapered tip.

'Early Argenteuil' Asparagus Seeds, Precoce D'Argentuil

Asparagus has grown in the wild in France since the time of Louis XIV. Originally only three different types were available, they were distinguished mostly by their thickness, ‘la grosse’, ‘la commune’ and ‘la sauvage’.

Cultivation become widespread in the mid-19th century, with populations often identified according to countries and towns where they were grown. Arguably the best known asparagus was cultivated at Argenteuil, situated just 14 kilometres northwest of Paris. For centuries Argenteuil was an important asparagus-growing district: at one time several thousand persons were employed in cultivating the crop.

Asparagus 'Precoce D'Argentuil’ or ‘Early Argenteuil‘ was listed by Vilmorin-Andrieux in 1885 as a selection from 'Giant Dutch Purple'. It is one of three subvarieties of Argenteuil (early, mid, and late) and is highly esteemed for its thick, rose-purple spears with tender tips and an excellent flavour.

It is an excellent choice for the impatient gardener. Earlier and hardier than most asparagus varieties, the spears are usually produced from seed struck plants in the second year and it will shoot earlier in the season than other varieties.

In France, Asparagus D'Argentuil is the traditional variety used to create the popular white asparagus by blanching the plants. White asparagus, nicknamed ‘edible ivory’ and ‘white gold’ typically sells for two to three times as much as the green-skinned variety due to the high cost of production and the short season. However, it is simply created by mounding earth over the spears as they begin to push out of the ground, thus keeping them from sunlight and the photosynthesis that would turn them green.

This noble stalk may cost a king's ransom for much of the year but when cultivated in the garden it is affordable for even us commoners and is uncommonly delicious.
