Purple Kohlrabi Seeds, Di Vienna Viole, Purple Vienna

Named for a German word meaning "cabbage turnip," kohlrabi was developed first around the 16th century in northern Europe. By the end of that century, it had spread throughout the rest of the continent as well as to the Mediterranean region. The first recorded mention of kohlrabi in the States is found in the early 16th century. More recently, the countries of China, Israel, and Africa have discovered this vegetable; it has become quite a staple of northern Indian cuisine. Sugar Anns AAS Winner, Sugar Snap Pea Seeds

Sugar Ann Pea is an early-maturing snap pea known for its sweet, tender pods and compact growth. Plants produce crisp, bright-green pods about 3 inches long that are perfect for fresh eating, salads, and light cooking. Cool-season hardy and high yielding, it’s ideal for small gardens and containers.

Snap peas, or sugar snap peas, are basically a cross between garden peas and snow peas. The whole pod is edible and they have a crunchy flavor and sweet taste.

One of the best features of Sugar Ann is its earliness, up to 2 weeks earlier than comparisons. Its plump, edible pods are very sweet. The short, compact growth habit of Sugar Ann makes it ideal for urban gardeners with limited space who were previously unable to grow snap peas. The peas grow on a compact, 18-inch-high bush and can be grown with or without support. Remove string from pods before cooking.

Sweet Corn Seeds, Peaches and Cream, SU Bicolour, Honey & Cream

Peaches and Cream Sweet Corn has is a bicolor hybrid with white and yellow kernels that provide two different flavors in each bite. With a name like Peaches and Cream, you know it has to be good. It is a sugary-enhanced (su) variety, which means it matures slightly earlier than standard varieties.

Perhaps one of the sweetest rewards in your garden, sweet corn is a warm-season crop sensitive to frost and light freezes. Remember to plant your seeds with at least 3 months of warm, sunny weather ahead. Choose a location with full sun and remember to keep the water reservoir filled for these heavy drinkers. Corn smut, a disfiguring parasitic fungus that forms large "boils" on stalks, leaves, tassels, or ears can be a major issue for corn. It’s important to cut off the boils before they burst, as the spores are viable for 5-7 years, and can ruin future crops planted in the same gardening system. While delicious, corn has little nutrients to offer, but can be used in any number of ways to eat.
There are three types of genes and sweet corn. It is the genes that cause corn to form sugar instead of starch in the kernels. The first sweet corns discovered are called normal, or sugary-1 types. These varieties are designated su-1 in catalogues. Their kernels have starch and sugar in them. The second type of sweet corn discovered has no starch in the kernels, only sugar. They are called supersweet, or shrunken 2 (sh-2) corns since the seeds a shriveled when dry. These are the sweetest corns. The third type is called sugary enhanced (se) corn. They have more sugar than su-1 types, but do have starch in the kernels.
