Sorrel is a leafy green vegetable grown for its pleasantly tart, lemony flavor. It sometimes gets classified as an herb and sometimes as a vegetable. Either way, gardeners in the U.S. don't grow enough of it. Sorrel plants prefer the cool seasons of spring and fall, quickly bolting to seed as the weather heats up. The two most commonly grown species are garden sorrel (Rumex acestosa) and French sorrel (Rumex scutatus).

Sorrel plants have smooth, arrow-shaped leaves that grow from a center rosette. The plant will send up a tall flower stalk as the temperature warms, but it's best to remove this to promote leaf growth for a better harvest. The red flowers are rather insignificant whorled spikes, like rhubarb.

Sorrel only gets about 12 to 18 inches tall, although the flower stalks (if left on the plant) will get taller. It does spread out though, easily taking up 2 feet in width. Sorrel is typically planted in spring and has a moderate growth rate; young leaves are ready to harvest in a little over a month.

Tendergreen Mustard is a flavorful cold-weather green that is wonderful featured in salads or cooked dishes. It makes a great spinach substitute. Enjoy fresh Tendergreen.

This versatile Japanese green is called mustard spinach, spinach mustard, or komatsuna, but it's neither mustard nor spinach! Whatever its name, this delicious, leafy green is milder than other mustards, very easy to grow, and quickly produces flat, smooth, dark, glossy green leaves that can be picked as baby greens or grown to full size. Hardy and productive plants are slow to bolt and tolerate cold, heat, and dry conditions; although best results in cool weather.

Cultivation Advice Italian Leek Carentan 2 Organic

• Leek is extremely hardy, forgiving and can be planted as soon as the soil can be worked.
• Sow sparingly directly in drills in early-mid spring,
• the aim to produce pencil thick plants of around 8” tall for transplant to their final position.
• Can be planted in trays under cover and transplanted for an earlier crop.
• When pencil size (around Jun/Jul) lift carefully and remove the top third of the foliage and 1/3 of the roots.
• Transplant in pre-made holes of 4-6 inches deep,
• 8 inches between plants in a sunny position with rotted organic matter incorporated.
• If space is limited this can be reduced,
• provided you pull alternative plants when young to make space for the remainder to grow.
• When transplanting carefully poor water into the hole to wash soil around the roots,
• then leave and earth up as they grow to blanche the stems.
• (Do not get soil between the leaves).
• Harvest alternate plants when large enough for use.

Regina Di Maggio/Boston: Plant has thick and fleshy leaves with a round core. Leaves are expanded and heavy. Seeds are white. Plant is suitable for spring and autumn growing.

This is one beautiful and tasty butterhead lettuce. Green with the edges of the leaves tinged with red. Somewhat less red than Quatro Stagioni (Four Seasons). Prefers spring & fall, but will take some summer heat. Large head; lovely soft texture. 55 days.

Miscuglio di Lattuga/Lettuce Mix: Mix of lettuce with thick and compact red and reddish green leaves. Heads are large. Plant is an excellent yielder. This is a very popular second-early variety. Plant is well suited for summer growing's.
