These showy, colorful blossoms will have the neighbors talking. This easy-to-grow annual is shorter than most Cosmos varieties, so it fits well in smaller spaces. Cosmos is great for butterfly gardens and cut flower gardens alike.

Because of their Mexican heritage, these bright annuals meet high heat and drought conditions with native beauty and vigor. Spanish conquistadors searching for gold discovered these flowers on their journeys through Mexico. Mission gardens often included these flowers, which priests gave the name "cosmos," the Greek word for a harmonious whole, because of their neatly spaced petals. Cosmos flowers made their way to England with Spanish ambassadors in the late 18th century, and to the United States in the following century.

These can grow up to 48" tall.

Golden Swiss chard can be used similarly to other leafy greens and chard varieties and may be eaten raw when young, but larger leaves are best cooked. They can be sautéed, blanched, stewed, braised, baked, and even grilled. Use raw leaves to add an earthy saltiness and a bright color to salad mixes. Slow cook entire stalks similarly to collards, though some of their golden color may lessen and become dull, and compliment with smoked meats and white beans. Wilt the shredded leaves into pastas or atop pizzas and flatbreads. The golden stalks are as equally edible as the leaves, and may be used in dishes for added texture. Complimentary flavors include citrus, tomatoes, garlic, shallots, chickpeas, white beans, potatoes, aged and melting cheeses, cream, mushrooms, bacon, sausage, ham, chili flakes, fennel and herbs such as basil, tarragon and chervil

Marigolds germinate quickly, sprouting within a few days and blooming in about 8 weeks, making them easy to grow from seed. Sow seeds directly outside after all danger of frost, 1 inch apart and water thoroughly after planting.

Marigolds only need enough water to dampen the soil, and they only require watering about once every ten days. The soil should be allowed to dry out on the surface before watering. The base of the plant should receive the water, and the plant should not be watered from overhead.

Marigolds thrive in cool season, it is best to plant during spring. Marigolds can even handle the reflected heat and light of paved surfaces as long as they get regular moisture. Another fun fact, marigolds bloom better and more often in poorer soil!

A very old French Heirloom named for the Dijon area of Burgundy that has been renown for mustard production since the 13th century. Also known as simply Yellow or White Mustard, Dijon has been bred to bolt (go to seed) quickly, as it is grown primarily for its mild flavored yellow seeds used worldwide as a spice and the main ingredient in the classic condiment. Very prolific, a small plot will yield enough to keep your cupboard full for the winter. Harvest plants before pods open to prevent self-seeding and planting a potential weed. Hang upside down to mature and ensure seeds are fully dried before use.

Chamomile is a plant that has been used since ancient Egypt in a variety of healing applications. Chamomile is a native of the Old World; it is related to the daisy family, having strongly scented foliage and flowers with white petals and yellow centers. 

Chamomile blooms best in a location with full sun, but it will grow in partial shade, too. In fact, in hot Southern climates, chamomile benefits from a bit of afternoon shade, which will help keep the blooms from drooping.

With chamomile, you can flavor jams, candies and ice cream, or you could add it to liqueurs like vermouth. Then there are tasty recipes like risotto, fish salad, soft breakfast cakes, sweet creams or biscuits you could make – all flavored with chamomile… The possibilities are simply endless!

The Golden Acre is a tasty cabbage that arrives early and is suited for close spacing. This early round head cabbage is easily grown and versatile in use. Heads are about 6 to 7 inches in diameter on compact plants about a foot high. Its firm, medium green head is excellent cooked or raw in stews and salads.
