Catskill Brussel Sprouts, Choux De Bruxelles, Seeds

Catskill Brussels Sprouts are an heirloom variety that dates back to 1941. Plants produce loads of 2″, medium-green sprouts on 2′ stalks. Great for eating fresh or freezing. Brassica oleracea var gemmifera. 100 days to maturity.

Catskill Brussels Sprouts are a traditional open-pollinated heirloom variety developed in the United States and introduced in the mid-20th century by the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, New York. Bred for improved uniformity and cold tolerance, this variety produces sturdy, upright plants with thick stalks and closely spaced, smooth, deep green sprouts that typically measure 1 to 1½ inches in diameter. Catskill Brussels Sprouts are known for their firm texture and mild, sweet, nutty flavor that becomes even better after exposure to frost, making them especially well suited for late fall and winter harvesting. Valued by home gardeners and market growers alike, this dependable variety offers good yields, excellent cold hardiness, and consistent quality, and remains a popular choice for roasting, steaming, or sautéing.

Premium English Telegraph, Long Pickling Cucumber Seeds

Telegraph or continental cucumbers are the longest and thinnest of the cucumbers and have a slight 'hook' at one end. Their skin is dark green and has shallow grooves running parallel from top to bottom. Telegraph cucumbers are sweeter than the common cucumber and have very few seeds, if any.
It has long, thin fruits that average about 15–18 inches in length. To keep them growing straight instead of curling we recommend growing the plant vertically and training it on a trellis or netting.
‘Telegraph’ is mild in flavor with crisp white flesh and very few seeds—the few seeds it does have are very small and soft, which makes it extremely popular for salads and snacking.

Licorice Root Herb, Plant, Annual, European & Asian

Common Names: licorice root, licorice, liquorice, sweet root, gan cao, gan zao, Chinese licorice

Latin Names: Glycyrrhiza glabra, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Glycyrrhiza inflata

Background

Licorice root is cultivated throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. It is used as a flavoring in candy, other foods, beverages, and tobacco products.

Licorice root has a long history of use, going back to ancient Assyrian, Egyptian, Chinese, and Indian cultures. It was used traditionally for treating a variety of conditions, including lung, liver, circulatory, and kidney diseases.

Today, licorice root is promoted as a dietary supplement for conditions such as digestive problems, menopausal symptoms, cough, and bacterial and viral infections. Licorice gargles or lozenges have been used to try to prevent or reduce the sore throat that sometimes occurs after surgery. Licorice is also an ingredient in some products for topical use (application to the skin).

Perennial (zones 7-10)

14-20 days

Well-drained

Part shade to full sun

12-36" apart

Licorice has long been appreciated as a flavoring in confections, liqueurs and other creations. It's use as a flavorful tea goes back even farther. Licorice tea does not taste exactly like the black licorice sticks you might remember from childhood. That's because most licorice candy is usually flavored with anise.
