Italian heirloom with an elongated, torpedo, or globe shape, featuring a mild, sweet flavor perfect for salads, pickling, or fresh eating, and is known for its vibrant rosy-pink to deep red color and excellent storage qualities. 

Appearance: Elongated (torpedo/bottle) or globe-shaped bulbs with lovely rosy-pink to deep red skin.

Flavor: Mild and sweet, less pungent than typical red onions, with a delightful crispness.

Uses: Excellent raw in salads, pickled, or cooked fresh; cures well for short-term storage.

Origin: An old Italian heirloom variety, also related to Tropea onions.

Carosello Barese is a traditional Italian heirloom cucumber-melon from Puglia, prized for its mild, refreshing flavor and tender, crisp flesh. The fruits are typically light to medium green with a smooth to lightly textured skin and are harvested young for the best eating quality. Unlike regular cucumbers, Carosello types are botanically related to melons, giving them a sweeter, less bitter taste with excellent digestibility.
Carosello Barese is best enjoyed fresh in salads, sliced with olive oil, vinegar, lemon, salt, and herbs, or served as a crisp summer snack. It pairs well with tomatoes, onions, basil, mint, feta, seafood, and Mediterranean dishes. It can also be lightly pickled, added to cold pasta salads, or used in fresh salsas and chilled soups.
